From Empire to Republic: Celebrating Turkish Women’s Agency in the Struggle for Gender Justice
Betül Başaran received her PhD from the University of Chicago in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations in 2006, after completing a B.A. in International Relations and M.A. in Ottoman history from Bilkent University. She has taught Ottoman history and language at the undergraduate and graduate levels at the University of Chicago and Georgetown University. She is currently professor of history and coordinator of the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. She is from Izmir.
