Kent Drummond

Kent O. Drummond, a gentle and kind man, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2022 after a two month battle with COVID. He and his wife of 65 years, Ayla, had recently moved from Maryland to Virginia Beach to be closer to their family.

Kent was born in upstate New York near Durhamville on June 23, 1938. He served in the U.S. Navy and Reserves for about 30 years, and lived in Maryland most of his adult life. He met and married his wife in Istanbul in 1958.

In addition to his Navy career, Kent was active in the USO, and was an active member, Director, and Treasurer of the Maryland American Turkish Association (MATA). He and Ayla loved to travel and cruise. Kent was most famous for his “jokes.”

Kent is survived by his wife Ayla, his sister Anne Hill, three daughters Christine, Carolyn, and Dannene, four grandchildren Brittany, Chelsea, Zachary, and “J”, and four great-grandchildren, Carson, Macy, Lucy, and Isaac.

There will be a viewing Wednesday, April 27 between 4-6 PM, and the funeral will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, April 28 at the Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home and Cemetery, 601 N Witchduck Road, Virginia.
